Obama Says He’s Not Watching Election Returns: DNC Says GOP Sweep Isn’t Referendum On Obama Or Democrat Policies

11/04/2009

By Liz Rodriguez

Obama and Democrats don’t seem too concerned about Republicans winning two gubernatorial races last night, one in the swing state of VA and the other in the Democrat stronghold of NJ. Considering how strongly Obama endorsed Corzine, it seems odd that during the election (via Gibbs and Axelrod) the president declared that he’s not going to bother watching the election returns.

Obama personally campaigned for Corzine three times, taped ‘robocalls,’ and sent his vice president to make two additional appearances.”

BO also traveled to Norfolk, VA to support Deeds for Governor. Click here to see the two hugging with huge smiles on their little faces.

Instead, Obama said he preferred to watch the Chicago Bulls game. Couldn’t the president at least admit to turning on the election coverage during commercials and half-time?

From an understanding CNN:

President Obama is not planning to watch Tuesday nights election returns, Obama aides Robert Gibbs and David Axelrod tell CNN. Obama is more likely to watch Tuesday night’s Chicago Bulls game than any political coverage, according to Axelrod.

The president’s senior staff have also decided not to hold a watch party to keep an eye on election returns as they come in.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was spotted in workout clothes leaving the White House campus at 7 p.m. ET, just as polls were closing in Virginia. Axelrod told CNN he has a dinner outside the White House to attend.

After the Republican victories, the Democrat party  issued a statement saying that this loss for Democrats should not be viewed as a referendum on President Obama or Democrat policies. Of course not. Why would the Democrats blame Obama or Democrat policies for Democrat governors not being elected? You are supposed to blame George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, or Rush Limbaugh. If this is the attitude Obama and Democrats have about elections then they are in for a rude awakening in 2010.
