Why I Would Divorce Tiger

12/15/2009

By Liz Rodriguez

I just read an opinion piece on Fox News titled ‘Why Elin Should Stay With Tiger’. This headline made me shake my head in disgust, but it made me think. What would I do if I was married to a famous, good looking billionaire golfer who cheated on me with at least 14 different women?  I would leave him right away, file for divorce, and be dating the next week. I would get everything I could from the cheater, and leave him forever. I wouldn’t stay with any man that cheats on me. There are plenty more fish in the ocean.

The lead sentence in the Fox opinion piece said,

Leaving the marriage solves nothing. This is a time to get real, intensive help.

That is to assume Tiger even wants help. Divorce will save Elin from a liar, a serial cheater, a whore, and a man that had absolutely no problem lying to his wife’s face every single day while possibly giving her genital warts HPV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, or HIV, (and much more) which could have got her very ill or even killed. To say leaving the marriage solves nothing is just plain wrong. Whether or not someone sleeps around is their choice. But to get married and keep doing it is grounds for divorce.

The Fox opinion author made her stance clear.

I am in the ‘stay with Tiger’ camp.

This author tried to rationalize Tiger’s actions.

His wife may have also shifted some of her attention from a very needy husband to the children.

And? So what if she did? There is no excuse for his behavior and that is why I believe divorcing Tiger is the only answer.

If I was married to Tiger, my ultimate conclusion to this mess would be that Tiger had no intention of being faithful to me. And that I was nothing more than a photo-op and used as a prop for his image.

Whether Elin stays with him or not is her choice, but if I was married to Tiger I would move as far away from him as I possibly could. I would take the kids and run.  A place that’s hard to reach. If Tiger chose to follow, so be it. But I would never touch him again, not even with a 50 foot pole. Sex addict or not, Tiger had no problem giving his wife a sexually transmitted disease.

The Fox News author feels differently.

Marriage vows are for the rough times or else they would not be needed. This is a time for healing, reflection and forgiveness in the Woods’ marriage — not a time for the divorce attorneys.

Is this author serious? Tiger was a serial cheater and she calls this rough times. This isn’t just rough times. This is who he is. It’s extremely naive to think he wouldn’t do it again.
