Many Catholics are Democrats first.

Catholic organizations might be battling the Obama administration over a new mandate on groups with religious affiliations to cover contraception in their health insurance plans, but a poll released Tuesday indicates that ordinary Catholics support the law at a higher rate than the general public.

When asked by Public Policy Polling (PPP) if employers should be required to provide workers with health-care plans covering contraception at no cost, 58 percent of Catholic respondents agreed, compared with 55 percent of all respondents.

And when the question was narrowed to whether colleges and hospitals with religious affiliations should be included in the requirement, Catholics continued to express more support than the general public. Fifty-two percent of Catholics said they should be held to the mandate, compared with 49 percent overall.

The results provide some encouraging news for President Obama, who incited a flood of protests by Catholic groups after his administration announced last month that they would not be exempted from the new mandate. Contraception is considered a preventative service that insurers must cover without charging a co-pay under the president’s health-care law………………..

The Democratic-affiliated firm surveyed 1,085 registered voters Feb. 3-5; the poll has a 3 percent margin of error. An oversample of 359 Catholic voters also was surveyed, with a 5.2 percent margin of error.  READ MORE

Obama appoints someone to listen to ILLEGAL immigrants’ concerns about US law enforcement policies! The Obama administration on Tuesday announced a new “public advocate” charged with listening to immigrants’ concerns about its law enforcement policies — but Republicans said the position amounts to an official mouthpiece for illegal immigrants being deported.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said the advocate will “serve as a point of contact for individuals, including those in immigration proceedings, NGOs and other community and advocacy groups, who have concerns, questions, recommendations or other issues they would like to raise.”

The agency — part of the Homeland Security Department — said Andrew Lorenz-Strait will be the first advocate.

But Rep. Lamar Smith, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said that meant elevating the concerns of illegal immigrants.

“It’s outrageous that the Obama administration has appointed a taxpayer-funded activist for illegal and criminal immigrants who are detained or ordered deported. The administration all too often acts more like a lobbying firm for illegal immigrants than as an advocate for the American people,” Mr. Smith, Texas Republican, said.  READ MORE

DENVER – Rick Santorum swept the Minnesota and Colorado caucuses as well as the Missouri primary Tuesday night in a huge upset victory that undermined Mitt Romney’s status as the inevitable Republican nominee.

Santorum’s win in Colorado was a particularly tough setback for Romney in a state that the former Massachusetts governor had been expected to win. The former Pennsylvania senator’s big night also stole the spotlight away from former House Speaker Newt Gingrich who has portrayed himself as Romney’s principal rival in the race.

Colorado’s Republican Party chairman Ryan Call confirmed to FOX News early Wednesday that Santorum won the Colorado caucuses with 40 percent of the vote, ahead of Romney’s 35 percent, Gingrich’s 13 percent and Texas Rep. Ron Paul’s 12 percent…………………………..

In Colorado and Minnesota, voters participated in presidential preference polls, but convention delegates will not be awarded to the Republican candidates until a later date.
