In Tuesday’s special election for Florida House District 87 — the Palm Beach County district that includes Mar-a-Lago — voters narrowly chose first-time Democratic candidate Emily Gregory over Republican Jon Maples.
According to the Florida election results page’s unofficial results, with all 156 precincts reporting, Gregory — who owns FIT4MOM Palm Beach and teaches classes like Stroller Strides for pregnant and postpartum women — received 17,113 votes (51.19%) to Maples’s 16,316 (48.81%), a margin of 797 votes. The results are currently labeled “unofficial” because some vote-by-mail ballots are still being finalized.

The result flipped a Republican-held seat in a district that President Trump carried by about 10 points in the 2024 general election.
Voters chose the candidate known for her stroller workout classes over Jon Maples — the Trump-endorsed conservative financial adviser with 17 years of experience, former Lake Clarke Shores Town Council member, and Florida Chamber of Commerce-endorsed candidate.
Maples campaigned on tax cuts, reducing red tape, support for law enforcement and first responders, school choice, and pro-growth policies. The Florida Chamber backed him for his business background and commitment to removing burdensome red tape and empowering job creators.
