PBS Says Catholic Belief Is ‘Common Good’ — Not National Populism, Individualism, Or Libertarianism

Taxpayer-funded PBS praised Pope Francis for an entire one-hour long show while attacking Trump & national populism.

Democrats constantly scream about separation of church and state yet taxpayer-funded PBS aired an entire show glorifying Catholicism and Pope Francis. They praised him as the “antithesis of the Trump era” and a global champion against nationalism, individualism, and even libertarianism. Apparently, personal freedom and national sovereignty are now sins.

This wasn’t journalism. It was political worship disguised as religious commentary. It’s long past time to defund PBS and stop subsidizing propaganda.

PBS Guest: “But then on the outside. Again, climate change, uh, income inequality, protecting democracy, he was a champion for so many in the world who are looking to an alternative to the kind of Trumpist national populism that is sweeping the globe.”

PBS host: “Yeah, you told Christiane recently that he actually was the antithesis of the new Trump era. Can you go into more detail about why that, that is your belief?”

PBS guest: “Well, he’s really been so outspoken, he believes that everybody needs to have a role, have a say. Again, the Catholic church, this is a bit of an irony. You know, the Catholic Church 58 years ago was not seen as a beacon of enlightenment. Um, but now it really has been since the 1960s and the reforms, welcoming religious freedom, welcoming people, um, protecting human rights, human dignity for everyone. And that has been Pope Francis’s message that he’s pushed out. He’s also been a great champion of politics. He likes what he calls a better kind of politics. Getting in there, really horse trading… He said, you have to get your hands dirty. So, that’s why you go to confession at the end of the day… We need to work for the common good. That was his message, his thrust. That’s the Catholic belief, not tribalism, not individualism, not libertarianism, working for the common good.”

After 50 minutes of promoting Pope Francis as a political icon, Christiane Amanpour wrapped it all up by asking her guest: “What specifically about him do you love the most?”

That wasn’t journalism — it was a taxpayer-funded love letter to left-wing Catholic politics. How are Democrats not outraged that PBS aired an hour-long religious tribute on taxpayer-funded public television?
