Only Yahoo News, MSN, and a few local outlets reported on the incident, and just two (WSMV and Tennessee Star) mentioned the suspect’s immigration status— noting an ICE detention hold or non-citizen status (indicating unlawful presence). However, the Yahoo and MSN reports are syndication of local reporting, not original national reporting.
Awad is not a U.S. citizen (per Kentucky arrest records) and has an ICE detention hold while in custody (per WSMV and Davidson County inmate search), which typically applies to non-citizens who are removable—meaning unlawfully present.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man wanted for the rape of a teenage girl on New Year’s Eve was arrested last week in Louisville, Kentucky, and has now been extradited to Nashville to face charges.
The Metro Nashville Police Department reported on January 16 that Louisville Police officers had arrested 31-year-old Mena Mohsen Farez Awad, and he would be extradited to Nashville to face child rape charges.
Awad is accused of breaking into an apartment on the morning of December 31, 2025, and sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl while she was asleep in her bed.
An arrest affidavit from MNPD officers revealed new details on what occurred that morning.
The officers responded to an apartment complex on Millwood Drive and spoke with the juvenile victim, who said she was asleep in bed with her nephew at about 6 a.m. when she felt someone touch her legs. She turned over to find a strange man over her and, despite her repeated attempts at telling him to stop, the man continued to rape her, according to the affidavit.
The girl told the officers that the man had a black handgun on his waist, and she feared he would use it on her or her nephew…
He remains in custody on a $145,000 bond and has a detention hold on him from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). READ MORE

To confirm this story was not being reported nationally, I searched CNN, MS NOW, CBS, PBS, NPR, The New York Times, The Washington Post, NBC, ABC, and Fox News for the name Mena Awad. FOX and ABC local affiliates reported the crime, but neither network’s national outlet covered the story.
