On MS NOW’s July 20, 2026 broadcast of All In with Chris Hayes, the host sharply criticized the Trump administration’s handling of the Iran war.
Relying on a single anonymous U.S. official cited in a Washington Post report, Hayes accused the White House of ignorance about dwindling missile supplies and highlighted civilian deaths, especially the strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school in Minab.
“Listen to this, The Washington Post reporting, according to a single US official, granted an anonymity quote, we do not have enough munitions to safely sustain operations. And I don’t think the White House is aware of that.
I hope someone in the White House is at least reading the Washington Post.
Meanwhile, over the past several months, thousands of people, thousands of people are dead across both Iran and Lebanon and in Israel, including civilians.
They’re apparently not a consideration at all for this White House, which, lest we forget, bombed a girls elementary school as one of the worst first acts, the enemy militant.”
This narrative conveniently omits the facts on the ground. At least half the people killed in Iran were active IRGC combatants and military personnel, not civilians. And who knows about the rest. We are listening to Iran who have the Western media in their pocket.
The school Hayes mentioned sat directly adjacent to an active IRGC naval and cruise missile base. It was originally built by the IRGC Navy inside their own military compound. Years later, Iran simply added a wall and turned it into a public girls’ elementary school — while deliberately keeping the active naval and cruise missile base right next door.

This tactic is a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions, which explicitly prohibit endangering civilians by locating military targets amid protected sites such as schools. The Iranian regime has a long, documented history of weaponizing its own population, deliberately choosing to put innocent civilians in harm’s way to achieve its strategic goals. That is who the free world is fighting.
This malicious regime intentionally sets intelligence traps for Western forces, ensuring that any standard military strike results in a civilian catastrophe that they can immediately exploit for international propaganda.
By ignoring these facts on the ground, American media outlets allow themselves to be weaponized as the Iranian regime’s PR department.

As you read on the screen, Hayes also alleged the Pentagon concealed dozens of injuries from the Iran conflict, relying on a New York Times report regarding CENTCOM reporting protocols. However, the military clarified that 96% of injured personnel returned to duty, stating that immediate disclosure of minor injuries is not required and could compromise operational security.
Interesting how when a Democratic president is in office, the mainstream media frames military operational security and delayed casualty notifications with deep nuance and institutional trust. Outlets regularly defend these communication delays as standard protocol to protect troop locations or prevent enemy propaganda victories, rather than portraying them as a malicious cover-up.
