On the September 21, 2026, edition of The Rachel Maddow Show, Maddow, as usual, devoted a segment to immigration enforcement, showing several ICE arrests along with protests against the agency. The segment presented the issue entirely from the side of the people being arrested and those protesting ICE.
Then came the part that made me laugh. The framing was the same: ICE was portrayed as the aggressor, while the people protesting and interfering with ICE operations were presented sympathetically. Maddow showed a short clip of protesters outside the ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois, being sprayed with pepper spray. In the clip, one protester is dressed as an ICE agent.
Maddow said:
“This was the scene this weekend at Broadview, Illinois, just on the west side of Chicago, as Trump’s masked agents once again freaked out at protesters and started spraying everybody indiscriminately with pepper spray.”
Maddow made it seem as though ICE agents randomly sprayed protesters who were simply standing there doing nothing wrong. But that leaves out what was happening around the facility. Protesters were actively interfering with ICE operations by blocking the driveway and preventing agents from entering and leaving. Imagine trying to do your job while protesters surround your workplace, scream at you, block your vehicles, and physically try to prevent you from getting in or out.
ABC7 Chicago reported that demonstrators had blocked the ICE facility’s driveway as federal officers attempted to enter and leave. Video reviewed by the station showed protesters gathered around the gate, with some holding onto the hood of a vehicle as officers attempted to drive through the crowd.
CBS Chicago reported that some protesters said they were “staging” in the middle of the street and blocking ICE agents from entering and exiting the property. The Department of Homeland Security said protesters were blocking the exit gate and impeding operations.
Maddow called it “indiscriminate” pepper-spraying. What she left out of that description was that protesters had been deliberately blocking ICE agents from entering and leaving the facility.
Instead of portraying ICE as the aggressors and the people being arrested as innocent immigrants with no criminal records, Maddow could devote a segment to Americans who have been killed, raped, molested, robbed, beheaded, lit on fire, assaulted, or otherwise harmed by people in the country illegally. Illegal aliens commit some of the most horrific crimes against Americans, yet Maddow does not say one word about those victims. She won’t even admit that being in the United States illegally is illegal. That is their first crime.
President Trump and ICE are literally saving lives every single day, in every state. They are taking dangerous offenders off the street and preventing women and children from being raped, beaten, or killed. Rachel Maddow cannot be bothered with any of that. She could do a segment on ICE officers who remove those offenders, enforce immigration law, and literally save lives all over the USA.
She should also do some research into why ICE agents wear masks. It is not a costume. Cartels, killers, gang members, and activists dox these officers, post their faces, hunt down their home addresses, and threaten their families. When television hosts sneer at “Trump’s masked agents,” they skip the part where unmasking a cop can get him, his wife, or his kids targeted. Maddow could do a segment on the threats ICE officers face every day—threats that get worse when hosts treat interference with a federal facility as harmless protest and the agents as the villains.
But she won’t, because Rachel Maddow is nothing more than a partisan storyteller and open-borders Democratic propagandist with a studio and a script. ICE has to be the masked villain. The protesters have to be the heroes. The Americans killed, raped, assaulted, and harmed by people in the country illegally have to stay off the air. And the parts where anti-ICE protesters blocked the driveway, held onto the hood of a vehicle being driven by federal officers, and impeded operations gets left out because it doesn’t fit that narrative.
