Forget “don’t drink Mexico’s water”—don’t drink US tap water or give it to your dogs! I tested my home’s water with a tester from Amazon, measuring dissolved solids in ppm: kitchen tap hit 399 (red warning!), shower 598, reverse osmosis (RO) 17, water dispenser 5. Bottled waters tested: steam-distilled drinking water 0, Dasani 22. The water company’s tests were nearly identical, varying by just a few ppm. I only cook with RO water and stick to steam-distilled, or purified bottled for drinking—it’s frustrating to be stuck showering with high-TDS water unless you spend big on whole-home RO. Test your water and don’t drink tap! It’s time for a nationwide overhaul to deliver cleaner water for all.
