Acid Attack On White Woman Who Had Just Left A Church In Georgia Received Little To No National Coverage

Most mainstream outlets either ignored the story or gave it only brief coverage. As a result, there was no national outrage.

If this had happened to a non-white woman, the story would have received far more attention. And if the attacker were a Trump supporter, we would never hear the end of it. Imagine the coverage if this had been done to an illegal alien—Democrats would be out of their minds, and the story would get non-stop attention.

Media attention changes predictably based on who the victim is and whether the facts fit a political narrative.

WSB-TV:

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The best friend of a woman who survived an acid attack gave insight into her recovery and what’s next for the victim.

Police have not arrested the man who randomly attacked Ashley Wasielewski at Forsyth Park in Savannah.

She is originally from Cobb County. During visits in her hometown, she often came to The Battery with her best friend, Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell learned.

She was released from the burn unit and is now recovering at a center in Augusta.

Her best friend, Connor Milam, said she was on the phone with her mom, when she was attacked.

“When you look at your best friend you’ve known for 25 years and that person’s not there right now – she’s so hurt and broken,” Milam said.

With third-degree burns over more than 50% of Wasielewski’s body, her friends still found a way to make her smile as she sat in a hospital bed. READ MORE

WJCL:

Authorities said Ashley Wasielewski was walking along the outer edge of Forsyth Park near Whitaker Street and West Waldburg Street shortly after 8 p.m. when she was attacked from behind. Her son said she had just left a children’s Christmas event at a local church.

According to the FBI, an unknown man wearing dark clothing approached her and poured acid on her before fleeing. Investigators said the substance caused severe burns.

Wasielewski’s son said that at first, his mother thought water had been splashed on her.

“I think shortly after she realized that any liquid was even on her, parts of her coat, her leggings were beginning to disintegrate. Then I think the burning set in shortly after that,” he said. READ MORE
