The bill would make significant strides to protect American communities and combat trafficking by enhancing the vetting of unaccompanied alien children (UACs) and their sponsors.
The bill is named for Kayla Hamilton, a 20-year-old Maryland woman who was brutally raped and strangled to death in Aberdeen, Maryland in July 2022 by a 16-year-old illegal alien from El Salvador. In 2023, a Florida Grand Jury report found that tens of thousands of UACs had been placed with sponsors who were unknown to the minors and that the government was often unaware of who the sponsors were. The Florida grand jury also detailed many instances of abuse and sexual assault of UACs after being placed with sponsors. READ MORE
