Christopher O’Leary isn’t just another talking head — he’s a former FBI counterterrorism agent. And now he’s on MSNBC telling ICE to soften its policies or else criminals will keep lashing out. Can you believe that? A man once trusted to stop violent threats is now arguing that law enforcement should bend to them.
On Katy Tur Reports, O’Leary made his position clear:
“We can tone down the rhetoric, and that’s the right message. But you also have to start looking at what policies you’ve implemented and what tactics you’re using, because, if you tone down the rhetoric, but you leave those other pieces in place, nothing’s going to change.”
His message is that if ICE doesn’t soften up, criminals will keep lashing out. That’s not public safety — that’s appeasement.
The people O’Leary describes as acting out aren’t victims. They’re criminals. And criminals don’t get to dictate law enforcement. ICE’s mission is to enforce the law, not to cave under threats of violence.
Rewarding violence with concessions doesn’t reduce it — it fuels it. If O’Leary’s logic took hold, the only winners would be the criminals who learn that intimidation works.
Law enforcement exists to protect the public, not to bow to criminals. Appeasement doesn’t bring peace — it invites more violence.
