During a casual handoff between shows on MSNBC, Chris Hayes and Jen Psaki openly signaled how viewers should interpret the news — before Psaki’s show even began.
Viewers were first told Republicans are “wild and crazy” by Jen Psaki — a longtime Democratic operative who has spent about 20 years working in Democratic politics, including serving in senior communications and press roles in the Obama administration and later as White House press secretary under President Joe Biden before becoming a primetime host at MSNBC.
Psaki opened by preemptively dismissing Republicans, saying, “At least the Republicans I expect are gonna be acting wild and crazy tomorrow. I don’t think Jack Smith will.” Nothing had happened yet, but the audience was already told who the reckless actors supposedly were.
She then praised MSNBC’s reporting in strong terms, saying she had to “pull myself together” after watching it, calling it “shocking, stunning, heart wrenching,” “the amazing work of a journalist,” and “one of the most powerful things anybody is doing right now.”
Chris Hayes said he “totally agreed” and then cast doubt on DHS’s claim that the driver rammed federal agents with a vehicle, warning viewers, “Everyone should think about that when they hear things coming from DHS about any interaction between people and our officers of that agency.”
Psaki reinforced that message, telling viewers, “I don’t think I would use a DHS statement without other context at this point.”
Before her show even begins, Psaki predicts the story, assigns the villains, praises the approved footage — and tells viewers which official statements not to trust.
