In last night’s episode of The Last Word, fill-in host Jacob Soboroff brought on Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs for what sounded like a paid campaign commercial.
She delivered an attack on her opponent while defending her management of the 2020 election and urged Arizonans to stop thinking about it.
Governor Hobbs (D) said:
“Look, there is a lot at stake in this election. It’s a choice between Arizona-first leadership and Washington-style chaos. And my very likely opponent after tonight is going to be Andy Biggs, who, as you’ve already described, is an election denier. Who not only is an ally of Trump and refuses to acknowledge the results of the 2020 election, but he went so far as to help plan January 6th.
He also helped orchestrate the fake elector scheme that went on here in Arizona. He has sought a presidential pardon for his role, and ultimately defied a congressional subpoena.
Now, here is what that means. Arizona is one of seven swing states that will decide the presidential election. And as you described, in 2020, we had a free and fair election because as secretary of state, I defended the will of the voters.
If Andy Biggs is governor, Arizona is the first swing state with an election denier in charge. And the time to stop that is not 2028. It is right now. And folks can help me do that by going to katiehobbs.org….
At the end if the clip, she said:
But Arizonans are ready to move on from this. They’re certainly not thinking about the 2020 election.”
She claimed that if Andy Biggs becomes governor, Arizona would become the first swing state with an election denier in charge, and she closed by openly directing viewers to her campaign website.
The entire segment played like a free campaign ad for Hobbs, complete with a donation plug.
Notably, fill-in host Jacob Soboroff did not offer Congressman Biggs similar airtime to respond or defend himself.
Instead, he reinforced the narrative, stating there is “no evidence at all of widespread voter fraud six years later” and describing continued questions about the election as a “blast from the past.”
Together, both Hobbs and the host portrayed the 2020 election as completely honest while pushing the idea that Arizonans should simply move on.
In this segment, Hobbs also insisted that Arizona’s elections remain trustworthy, stating:
“I know that elections in Arizona are secure and they are run by dedicated professionals who know what they’re doing. And I have confidence in our elections.”
Yet as the Secretary of State who oversaw the 2020 election, her refusal to address documented concerns — such as signature verification issues, chain-of-custody problems in Maricopa County, and other irregularities — undercuts that claim of confidence in Arizona’s elections.
In a presidential swing state, demanding that citizens “move on” and stop questioning is an attempt to silence legitimate debate ahead of another critical election.
Arizona voters deserve transparency and accountability, not campaign infomercials disguised as news.
Real leadership would address concerns directly instead of declaring the discussion closed.
This November’s choice could not be clearer: Arizona deserves better than election fraud denier Katie Hobbs.
