When career politicians who’ve clung to power in Congress for decades warn that Trump will end “free and fair” elections, it’s time to call out the hypocrisy.
Bernie Sanders has been in Congress for over 35 years—thanks to those same “free and fair elections” he loves to talk about. He’s a longtime beneficiary of the system he’s now claiming is under threat from Trump.
How about transparent and honest elections? Or secure elections? What does “free and fair elections” even mean?
Free to vote with no ID? Fair to let non-citizens vote in U.S. elections?
It sure as hell doesn’t mean requiring photo ID, regularly auditing and cleaning voter rolls, limiting unsolicited mail-in ballots, banning ballot harvesting, mandating voter-marked paper ballots with audits, or implementing real election security measures.
The “free and fair” elections Bernie champions are exactly why Congress can’t pass term limits. Sanders calls them undemocratic. But if term limits are undemocratic, why does the president only serve two terms?
I’m sure Bernie wouldn’t want a president serving for over 35 years like he has.
Of course, hypocritical Bernie posts this warning on X—complete with a Washington Post “article” for backup.
