Supporters hail it as a win for “equity and opportunity,” but critics call it a slap in the face to Illinois families already burdened by a deep fiscal crisis and massive pension shortfalls.
During a November 2024 interview on MSNBC, Pritzker emphatically pledged:
“I am going to do everything that I can to protect our undocumented immigrants. They are residents of our state.”
Opponents argue the governor is offering taxpayer-funded benefits to those ineligible while failing to address critical financial woes facing Illinois.
