On The Rachel Maddow Show Monday, May 4, 2026, Maddow attacked Trump’s Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security. She used the case to paint Trump officials as liars.
…”Today, for example, the Justice Department and the Homeland Security Department learned that their officials may be held in contempt of court by a federal judge in Rhode Island. The administration put out a press release lying about this particular judge, vilifying this particular judge in terms that were not true. What it said in the press release about this judge was false.
Now, today in court, the Justice Department’s lawyer begged the judge’s forgiveness for that. He admitted in today’s court hearing in Rhode Island that he in fact had deliberately withheld information from this judge. He said he only did so because the Department of Homeland Security explicitly instructed him to do that.
That’s really bad. But he threw himself at the mercy of the court. Told the judge he is so, so, sorry. Lying to a federal judge, lying about a federal judge is a really big deal if you’re a lawyer or a government official. And even though Trump’s Justice Department lawyer profusely apologized for it in court today, the judge said at this hearing today that she is weighing contempt charges against DOJ officials and Homeland Security officials for the lying. That is very not good.”
The case she is referring to: On April 4, 2026, Worcester, Massachusetts police arrested Bryan Rafael Gómez, a 27-year-old illegal alien from the Dominican Republic, for beating his girlfriend. He “allegedly” punched her in the chest and kicked her in the right leg, leaving visible bruises. He was released on $500 bail locally, after which ICE took him into custody. He also had an active homicide warrant from the Dominican Republic that the judge supposedly did not know about.

But Dubose did know about the assault and battery charges Gomez faces when ordering his release.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by the Herald, Gomez allegedly “beat” his girlfriend of three months at their Worcester home during an argument. He was arrested April 4 by Worcester Police.
“At approximately 0126 hours of 4/42026, in the City of Worcester, a named and identified victim stated to Police that Bryan GOMEZ punched her on the chest area and kicked her right leg during an argument,” the Worcester Police report says. “The victim showed Police the bruises on the left side of her chest (under the collar bone) and on her right leg just above the knee. Gomez and the victim had been a romantic relationship for three (3) months.”
DHS says Gomez entered the U.S. illegally in 2022 and was encountered by U.S. Border Patrol near Lukeville, Arizona. He was later released by the Biden administration. READ MORE
On April 28, 2026, U.S. District Court Judge Melissa R. DuBose–who was appointed in the final days of the Biden administration–ordered Gomez’s release. She supposedly did not know about the homicide warrant at the time. However, she did know he was in the country illegally, that he was a married man, and that he had just beaten his girlfriend.
Let’s not forget: this entire controversy is about an illegal alien who should never have been in the United States to begin with — a married man who was cheating on his wife while beating his girlfriend. He married a U.S. citizen in May 2025, yet less than a year later he was already involved with another woman. Was his marriage a sham to strengthen his immigration status?
Why was this judge more concerned with freeing an illegal alien woman-beater than protecting the victim of his assault?
Judge DuBose could have chosen not to release him. She had several legal options available, but instead chose to release him on a technicality.
The Trump DOJ and DHS are working hard to remove millions of illegal aliens, while judges like DuBose are releasing them.
If Democrats had secured the border instead of allowing tens of millions of unvetted foreigners into the USA illegally, American communities wouldn’t have to deal with cases like this.
Maddow, Judge DuBose, and Democrats are more concerned with freeing illegals than protecting American women.
