Rachel Maddow’s view is slanted. She insists Trump’s tariff push is a lone-wolf wrecking ball aimed at the economy, saying, “Donald Trump purposefully craters the US economy and threatens to throw the entire world into a pointless trade war fueled recession, if not depression, which is what he’s doing tonight.” But President Trump is wielding the 1977 IEEPA—a tool President Obama used at least 10 times, and President Biden used at least 5 times.
Her “global depression” alarm dismisses the debate: tariffs will strengthen U.S. manufacturing and security. For decades, the U.S. has been exploited with lopsided trade deals while nations like China and the EU slap hefty tariffs on American goods. It’s long past time for change and for America to stop being the world’s doormat on trade.
She hypes the Biden economy as the “envy of the world,” citing The Economist, a British publication. She brushes aside Obama’s anemic, job-killing recovery that gutted the middle class with outsourcing. She ignores Biden’s chaotic mess of runaway inflation and supply chain disasters. Both flooded the U.S. with illegal immigrants who took our jobs and drove down wages.
Maddow isn’t offering news—she’s churning out despair and prejudice with no impartiality, designed to rile up her audience, not inform them. I’m yearning for a straight news channel that sticks to facts without all the spin.
