Rachel Maddow is still doing Russiagate in 2026.
On her July 6 broadcast, Maddow once again pushed one of her favorite narratives: that Vladimir Putin “helped” Donald Trump get elected and that Trump has a “weird, slavish devotion” to the Russian dictator.
This time, she used Trump’s recent phone call with Putin ahead of the NATO summit to revive the same tired smear.
According to Maddow:
“We learned this weekend from a Kremlin announcement that Donald Trump apparently had an hour and a half long call with Vladimir Putin this weekend. That’s apparently how the president of the United States celebrated the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the founding of our country. He had a long, undisclosed secret phone call with a foreign dictator he has weird, slavish devotion to and who helped him get elected to the White House in the first place.”
Democrat propagandist Rachel Maddow frames it as if Putin handed Trump the presidency and Trump now takes orders from him.
While pushing this narrative, Maddow flashed headlines from The New York Times, The Guardian, Ukrainska Pravda, British intelligence sources, and Dutch intelligence about Russia threatening NATO, the Baltic states, Poland, and possible limited operations. She has been warning that Russia is about to attack Poland for a long time, recycling the same fear narrative over and over.
She then used the Trump-Putin call to suggest everyone should expect Trump to parrot some “Russian talking point” at the NATO summit.
From Maddow:
“So now based on past experience with Donald Trump and his conversations with Vladimir Putin, which he often doesn’t admit to having, because of that past experience of how he has behaved after speaking with Putin in the past, everybody is now expecting Trump to make some bizarre announcement or expecting him to pick some bizarre fight at the NATO summit that reflects whatever it is Putin last said to him before he left, right? It’ll be something that Trump’s never talked about before, never shown any native interest or understanding of whatsoever. It’ll be some Russian talking point…”
Maddow is taking a normal diplomatic phone call between two world leaders and forcing it into her decade-old MSNBC/MS NOW script: Trump is Putin’s puppet.
Trump also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the same weekend. Diplomacy is not proof of “slavish devotion.” Talking to both sides while trying to end a war is not treason.
President Trump has helped end eight wars, but Maddow won’t talk about that. She’d rather push the debunked Russia hoax than admit Trump’s leadership works.
Maddow’s entire argument is built on suggesting something scary or negative without actually proving it, and using emotion to make the audience feel like it must be true. Remind people of Russia. Claim Putin helped elect Trump. Call it “slavish devotion.” Predict Trump will obey Putin at NATO.
So she keeps selling the same dramatic lie she has been pushing for a decade: Putin got Trump elected and now controls him.
But Putin did not elect Donald Trump.
American voters did.
And Rachel Maddow is still furious about it.
Maddow is a puppet for the Democratic Party, who gets paid $25 million a year to repeat Democrat talking points and help Democrats win elections.
