Establishment Propagandist Rachel Maddow Claims Trump Will Destroy Post-WWII Global Order & NATO

On the July 6, 2026 episode of The Rachel Maddow Show, Rachel Maddow painted a dramatic picture of impending catastrophe as President Trump prepared to head to the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey.

Maddow said:

“This comes amid somewhat panicked reporting sourced from European intelligence agencies that the other countries in NATO are expecting Putin soon to try some kind of military incursion or even a full blown military attack against one of the European countries in NATO, just to test it, test it, just try to demonstrate what everybody already suspects to be the case, which is that Trump won’t make good on our treaty obligation to defend one of our NATO allies as long as that ally has been attacked by Russia.

Any such attack or incursion and non response from the United States would effectively end NATO once and for all, right?

The whole point of NATO is that the NATO countries commit to defending one another if any of them is attacked, right?

If Trump breaks that commitment, that will end NATO effectively, which of course is Vladimir Putin’s fondest dream.

So that is the loud static you’re hearing.

That’s the sort of ominous portent that looms over Trump’s trip to this NATO summit and Turkey, which we, he is leaving for right now as we speak.

Now I said there’s two things that were watching for though, for this Trump trip to the NATO summit.

Um.

We’ve got this thing with him just talking to Putin.

And oh god, what’s he gonna bring up now?

What’s he gonna do?

That’s one.

The second thing, though, sort of happily, is a totally different type of thing that we are also expecting from Trump while he is at this NATO summit in Turkey.

And that is that just by happenstance, there’s a very good chance that while Donald Trump is at the NATO summit in Turkey, he is going to have to pay E. Jean Carroll over $5 million.

This stems from the unanimous jury verdict against Trump in a 2023 civil trial in which a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse of E. Jean  Carroll.

Trump has now lost his appeals on that matter all the way up to the United States Supreme Court, which has neglected to bail him out on this.

And so he has kind of run out of appeals and run out of time.

And it may be that Trump needs to step out for a moment from his day job of destroying the post World War 2 Western LED international order in order to send more than $5 million of his own money to a woman whom a jury says he sexually abused.”

This is pure speculative panic dressed up as foreign-policy expertise.

Maddow takes intelligence chatter about possible Russian aggression, stacks assumption on top of assumption, and leaps to the most catastrophic conclusion: Trump will abandon NATO, Putin will test him, America will fail to respond, and the entire alliance will collapse.

Treating a potential Russian attack on NATO as near-inevitable is fearmongering, not analysis.

Such warnings often intensify around major summits to pressure the U.S. for more spending and commitments.

A cash-strapped Russia launching a direct attack on a NATO member just to “test” Trump would be an enormous escalation — not a casual probe.

The real point of the segment is clear: Maddow is not merely defending NATO.

She is defending the entire post-World War II globalist order.

In her framing, Trump is not attending a summit — he is arriving as a wrecking ball ready to destroy the sacred establishment system.

Maddow and the legacy media frame any challenge to this outdated order — demanding burden-sharing, reciprocity, or putting American interests first — as reckless and pro-Putin.

But questioning endless U.S. subsidies and forever wars is not destroying NATO.

It is forcing the alliance to become stronger and less parasitic.

Americans did not vote for the old system that drains our resources, risks our troops, and prioritizes foreign capitals over our own interests.

Trump was elected to put America First and dismantle that failing globalist order.

Maddow and the establishment press are propagandists for that dying system — which is exactly why they panic whenever Trump challenges it.
