Maddow cited the latest Pew Research Center numbers: President Trump at 30% approval / 68% disapproval. She then highlighted that 52% of the country says they “very strongly disapprove” of him (not just disapprove). She framed this as a majority of Americans holding a strongly negative view and tied it to potential Democratic openings in red-state races.
Pew’s Sept 28–Oct 4, 2026 survey of ~5,000 U.S. adults shows 30% approve / 68% disapprove (comparable to Trump’s late first-term low). National polling averages around the same time were higher (roughly mid-to-high 30s approve in aggregates like Nate Silver / Silver Bulletin or NYT-style averages), so Pew is a low-end quality poll, not the only one.
But what amazes me most is how little many Americans seem to prioritize their own safety and the safety of their kids — even as crime continues to fall sharply under President Trump, with lives being saved and cities getting safer every day across the country.
The clearest example: Crime Plummets To Another Historic Low Under President Trump. This alone should get the president huge support because without safety, nothing else matters.
When Democrats hold power, the country becomes less safe. They open the borders and allow millions of unvetted illegal aliens to enter, including people with criminal records from other countries. They end policies like Remain in Mexico, expand catch-and-release, and support sanctuary cities that block cooperation with ICE — often releasing illegal aliens who have committed crimes instead of turning them over for deportation.
At the same time, they release large numbers of criminals already here through no-cash-bail reforms, progressive prosecutors who decline charges or drop cases, and early releases from jails and prisons.
The positive things happening under President Trump deserve attention too, Rachel. But notice you’ll never hear any of it on the fake news. Maybe people should check their own 401(k)s, look at the falling crime rates, and see the poverty rate dropping instead of just listening to the media.
