Symone Sanders is losing her mind on TV, ranting,
“I just don’t, I can’t believe that we are asking the question, is the 14th amendment to the Constitution constitutional?! That is what, it is crazy and I am sorry. But people need to call. This is crazy. They are asking us, they are asking us not to believe our own eyes and our own ears. They are asking us to go against everything that we know to be true. This is insane.”
Yeah, it’s crazy and insane that a Black American on national TV doesn’t get it—she can’t believe we’re even asking a question about the 14th Amendment, which was meant to give citizenship to former slaves and their kids, not hand it out like candy to kids of illegal aliens or temporary visitors.
By calling debate over the 14th Amendment’s scope “crazy” and “insane,” she’s dodging the real issue—should citizenship automatically apply to children of illegal immigrants and tourists? It’s a lazy trick to shut down discussion without touching the amendment’s true history.
