Lawrence O’Donnell Played The De Niro “Whacked Him” Clip From Goodfellas To Prove Trump Is Lying About “86”
Yesterday, on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell (MSNBC, April 30, 2026), O’Donnell wanted people to believe that because the dictionary definition of “86” doesn’t define it as “to kill,” it has never taken on that meaning in slang.
He quotes Merriam-Webster’s definition in the clip below, but what he fails to mention is that the very same Merriam-Webster dictionary acknowledges the “to kill” sense, even if they do not fully enter it due to its relative recency and sparseness of use. It shows examples of “86” being used to mean “kill” as far back as 1991, including military jargon for “killed in action.
